Lesson 22  - June 20, 2001

The Prescription for a Healthy Heart

Introduction:

Must recognize that:

Volition controls what goes            the mind;   what             in the mind   and what the mind             is                     with and what comes          of the mind.

Some observations on the Word heart as used in Scripture.

Proverbs  4:20-21

- What does heart mean?   Says here its the place to keep              !

- What do imperatives imply?   Its an appeal to our volition,  to make                .

Why is this crucial for us?  {side trip}

The way that man thinks, apart from the Bible is totally                 and contradictory to what the Scriptures communicate.

We either are looking at life              from the Word of God or we are looking at life          the Word of God!

1. What is the healthy heart? - the healthy mind?

It is a mind with                   volition to the            and               of God.

a. Prov. 2:2     "Make your ear attentive to wisdom"  (NASB)

It says you control what goes into the mind!  You                 what goes into your mind, and therefore becomes your                    .

b. Prov. 3:3

Verse notes a reality we need to remember, that is,  truth is illusive.
That is, in that once you possess it, there is a constant danger of losing it!

Of having it slip             .

Both kindness and truth are something that must be                  and then to be               against loosing!

If you fail to guard what you bring into the mind along side of it, you will                 it!

"Bind them around your neck,"

Says that your                       and virtue that is being lived out, that is                      in your life comes from the Word of God.

"Write them on the tablet of your heart."

God's thinking is not innate with us;  we must                  to make it a part of our                 and that's why the emphasis in these passages on writing them, inscribing them.

c. Prov 7:2-4

All of this to say that we need  #1 positive volition,  a                 for the word of God;

#2 to make wise                  ;

I will           what the Word says!   I will                  the Word of God!    I will               the word!
