Lesson 59

Revelation  - Study of Things to Come

The Return of Christ - Chapter 19

The Arrival of the King!!

Contrasts!!

During the 1st Advent; He came to Jerusalem meek, lowly, He came riding on a donkey!

Not this time!  Here He comes riding majestically on a white horse!

19:11-21 breaks down into 2 Parts:

#1  19:11-16  Emphasis on the Description of His Person and Character

#2  19:17-21  His Conquest

#1  19:11-16  Emphasis on the Description of His Person and Character

a) 19:11 Rides a White Horse

- Historical background during Roman empire:  familiar to those John is writing;

b)  "He who sat upon it is called Faithful and true;"

Faithful  pisto,j;  This relates Him to His word!

true;  avlhqino,j;  He is genuine, reliable

- These 2 terms together are only used of Christ!

c)  He comes in the 2nd Advent in 2 capacities!

"and in righteousness He judges and wages war."

#1  to judge     #2  to wage war;

- He judges and wages war by a standard;

* Christ then returns waging war, because of the evil perpetrated by the Satanic trinity; its necessitated by the infernal trinity;  the instigators of the evil of the tribulation period.

* What characteristic of Christ is dominate in His return?

Some sample passages:

This is first seen in Ex 15:3;

Another example is in Isa 36-37 also 2 Chron 32;

* In the flow of this section we have 3 names of Christ given:

The first is here in vs:11; "faithful and true"

The second is in vs:13; "The Word of God"

The Third is in vs: 16; "King of Kings and Lord of Lords."

d)  19:12 continues the description of the returning Messiah;

The next characteristic is noted by "His eyes are a flame of fire"

- That He sees all, the fact of His OmSc, enables Him to judge righteously, as He will do!

"and upon His head are many diadems;"

- The use of diadem puts the focus on His right to rule;

"and He has a name written [upon Him] which no one knows except Himself."

- What this passage is saying, I believe, is that when He comes we are seeing the incomprehensible one; that not one of us can at this point completely know or appreciate, that is until eternity!

Rev 19:13  Here we see the next item in the description of Christ in His return;

    "And He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood;"

- The clue is in the words "clothed" and  "dipped"  both are perfect pass ptc.

Therefore the fact that He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, conveys the idea that He is already a veteran in Battle.

- The time is at hand for the next judgment that will add blood stains to his garments;  Prophesied in Isa 63:1-6

   "and His name is called The Word of God."

Why is this name appropriate now?

- clue in 2 Pet 3:4-7
