Lesson 56

Revelation  - Study of Things to Come

The Return of Christ - Chapter 19

19:1 - 20:3 Centers on the Return of Christ, all that is involved with 4 major elements to His return.

1. Hallelujah chorus    19:1-6

2. Marriage feast       19:7-10

3. The King, His Person and His conquest    19:11-19

4. Satan, his main operatives the Beast/False Prophet dealt with 19:20-20:3

1. Hallelujah chorus    19:1-6

- Hallelujah is a transliterated Hebrew word;  hallel = praise; jah = YHW

This praise section forms a bridge between the darkness of the judgment of God in the Tribulation, with particular focus on the destruction of Babylon the Great (19:2) and the light of the reign of the King in the millennium.

- It's interesting to note the first use in scripture of Hallelujah;

 - its an appropriate and similar context to Rev 19

Who is involved here?  In vs:1-3 it is the "great multitude in heaven"  (vs:1)

This is the same group we met in 7:9, 13-14;

Content of their praise begins in  19:1b  "Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God";

Salvation: deliverance from evil;  19:2c "and He has avenged the blood of His bond-servants on her."

"

Glory:  moral glory of God as seen in His judgment of sin.

19:2a "because his judgments are true and righteous;"  they are true, genuine, and reliable

Power: OmPo displayed in the execution of judgment; (unique display of)

19:2b  "for He has judged the great harlot (Babylon) who was corrupting the earth with her immorality, "

In vs:3 we find the second part of their praise:

- looks at the fact, the reality of the judgment of Babylon noted in 17-18.

The next praise is seen in vs:4 by the 24 elders and the 4 living creatures.

- The identity of the 24 elders = representatives of the Church.

- The 4 "living beings" are cherubim!

- that they're associated so intimately with the execution of God's justice; and their praise points all through Rev to the reality that:

#1 God's justice is to be established.

#2 His righteousness is to be established.

#3 His holiness is to be vindicated

* The Function of these 4 living beings can be summed up:

To protect, to vindicate, to affirm God's righteous judgment.

- When God said to Adam and Eve, because you have sinned and are going      to have to leave the garden, what happened?

Note: These 4 living beings; cherubim; form the inner core; closest to the throne; that makes sense,  they  have the responsibility to protect, to vindicate and affirm the righteous judgment of God;

The Final Hallelujah; 19:5-6

- A voice calls out from the throne, exhorting Praise to our God,

What is being addressed here in vs:5-6 is the same time frame as 11:15-17.     Judgment of rebellious mankind is over;

The rule of earth is about to pass from man to God;  namely His Christ!  And it's an eternal rule.
