Lesson 45

               Revelation  - Study of Things to Come

Judgment, Salvation Events of Scripture!

Some Principles and observations:

From Gen. to Rev. we have periodically the outpouring of the wrath of God in judgment and the parallel idea of salvation or deliverance.

1. Every judgment is preceded by an offer of grace, or by an offer of salvation.

- Sequence:  Grace involves time; time for response; followed by the judgment.

- Illustrations:

#1. Great flood; Gen 6:3   120 years; no response;

- Noah a "preacher of righteousness" (2 Pet 2:5)

#2. What about the Exodus, the crossing of the Red Sea?

#3. Here in Rev we are about to see the final outpouring of God's wrath. 15:1

2. Every judgment reflects perfect justice!

- No matter where it is or when it is; it is from God therefore;  the judgment reflects a perfect expression of His justice.

How many who were there and responded to the message of Grace and got into the ark perished?  Not a one!

What about at the time of the Exodus?

How many who followed Moses drowned in the Red Sea?

In the tribulation, what about the 144k, how many that we saw sealed in ch-7 did not make it to the end of the Trib to stand on Mt Zion with Christ.

How many who place their faith in Christ and die will go to heaven??

3. In every judgment of God there is only ONE means of salvation, delivery.

*** PRIN: There is never an alternative to God's way of Salvation!  Jn 14:6;  Acts 4:12

4. That there is only one means of salvation/delivery in every judgment; using that means requires one thing only, use of faith, the exercise of faith.

** When we say that salvation is only by faith in Christ and what He accomplished on the cross, we are saying that the only way of avoiding the judgment of God is by placing my eternal destiny in what some one else did almost 2000 years ago for you and me!

                                        Revelation Chapter 15

                              Introduction to the Final Judgment

Outline:

 1. Messengers of the Final Judgment  15:1

 2. Songs of the Final Judgment  15:2-4

 3. Source of the Final Judgment  15:5-8

1. 15:1 - Messengers of the Final Judgment

    "And I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvelous,..."

This is the 3rd of 3 important signs given in Rev.

    #1  12:1 woman = Israel; Emph. on the place of Israel, central.

    #2  12:3 dragon = Satan; control of Satan during the period.

                             includes the beast and his empire; F/P

    #3  15:1 angels = messengers of God; with bowls pouring out God's wrath

    "seven angels who had seven plagues"  plhgh,  strike, blow, plague;

- God repeats Himself 3 times, describes wrath 3 ways to make sure that     we get the picture of His wrath being poured out.

- This implies that the previous judgments unfolding in the breaking of the seals and the blowing of the trumpets were also plagues/blows, divine judgments of God, His wrath poured out on a wicked world.

- That they are described as the last plagues shows that they are the final judgments preceding the second coming of Christ.

"because in them the wrath of God is finished."

2. 15:2-4   Songs of the Final Judgment

They revolve around the righteousness of God displayed, Holiness.

The imagery and symbolism is extensive here.

The 2 songs;  word for song is repeated;

    #1. the song of Moses, the servant of God;

    #2. the song of the lamb

Passage links the God of Israel, who delivered them safely from their enemy Egypt, across the Red Sea; with the Lamb who went to the Cross and the Lord God Almighty, the King of the Nations who will return and judge the world.

Vs:3-4 do give us the words of a great song of praise;

- One that is totally theo-centric;  Specifically revealing Christ!

Great and marvelous are Thy works,
