Revelation                                                         Lesson 23

                                                                                                         Scenario  of  Events - An Overview

Intro:

Need to recognize that Revelation is not the complete picture by itself;

We're studying a period of time that is most often referred to as the Tribulation which can be actually a segment of  another term used more extensively in Scripture, the phrase, "the Day of the Lord!"

Who is the central focus of this whole period??

Major passage that we have seen that lays out the purpose and thrust; Dan 9:24-27.

- All the passages, 100+, dealing with the Day of the Lord  (DOTL);  emphasize this focus!

** Regathered Israel makes a treaty/covenant with a powerful evil world leader;  This Marks the beginning of a 7 year period.  The last 7 years of the age of Israel or Daniel's 70th week.

#1 Assumes that Israel exists as a Sovereign Nation!

#2 Since we know that the Israeli people were dispersed in 70 AD., it must also assume a regathering of the people of Israel.  Ezk 20:33-39;  36:22-25

#3 Assumes the existence of a person who is powerful, evil & a leader.

- Find that he has many names; helps identify his character as well as his activity.

     "horn"            Dan 7:8,11             authority

             "willful king"      Dan 11:36              character > God's vpt

          "man of lawlessness"  2 Ths 2:3       character as related to God's std's

             "anti-Christ"        1 Jn 2:18             How he relates to Christ and God's plan

               "beast"            Rev 13:1-10          power/authority

The Day of the Lord is that period of time when God openly intervenes in the affairs of men, in judgment and in blessing.

Range of emphasis Noted!

  1. The DOTL primarily is a time of God's wrath and judgment on Israel and the world.

     - Joel 2:1-2  Israel

     - Isa 13:9-11 nations

     - Details of this is given in Rev 6-19.

  2. The DOTL includes the Return of Christ.  Zech 14:1-4

  3. The DOTL also includes the rule and reign of Christ, the branch.   Isa 4:2-5;

Isa 11:1-10 character of the king and the kingdom He rules!

  4. It also includes all of the way down to the destruction of the present heaven/earth and the coming new heaven/earth after the millennium  2 Pet 3:10-13; Isa 65:17; 66:22
