Lesson 17

                       Revelation Chapter 6

The 6 Seals of Rev 6 - The  Detail

Review #1 -4

Seal #5  The Martyrs, result of persecutions  6:9-11

Scene is in heaven,  result of what happened on earth.

Have harmony between Mt 24:9 and the 5th Seal as the sequence of events moves into the next and more intensified stage of the Trib.

1. In vs:9 we find the martyrs testimony;

*** At no time in human history, does God leave man without a witness!

- Who or What is the witness in the tribulation period?

1. 144k Jewish evangelists who are sealed in ch-7

2. In ch-11 we will see 2 witnesses; who are sent into the world prophesying and performing great miracles.

3. Millions of copies of the Bible in many languages; why written?  John 20:31

4. An Evangelist angel  Rev 14:6-7

5. All those who respond to the message of the Gospel they also will be a witness.

*** Always then even in judgment there is always grace present!

We will see in the 6th seal the ultimate development of man's attitude towards God's word.

- This attitude of intolerance to the word of God and intolerance of those who do believe it,  will be so dominant that God will have to supernaturally protect, to seal, the 144,000 evangelists of the Tribulation.

- The major issue in every generation, the attitude towards the Word, which in turn reflects ones attitude toward God and our Savior Jesus Christ.

2. Notice where we find the martyrs;  vs:9

- "underneath the altar"

-  Being under the altar = says that those spoken of here were under the atoning sacrifice; its a metaphor for justification, therefore indicating salvation.

3. Cry of the Martyrs noted in  6:10

- Notice who they address!

They do not question God's righteousness and justice, "holy and true";  only the timing of it, how long?

4. The Martyrs reward  6:11a

- That they were given white robes;  this tells us that indeed they are believers;

This also tells us that in heaven, before a believer receives a resurrection body they have some form of temporary or interim body which will be replaced by the resurrection bodies at the proper time.

 5. The Answer to their cry is given in 6:11b

1. There is a remnant of martyrs that needs to be filled.

2. This indicates another principle; God may be glorified by our living or dying.

3. How long will they, these martyrs be in this state?  Rev 20:4

Seal #6 - Very Climatic Judgment  6:12-17

This breaks down into 2 parts!

#1 The events are detailed in 6:12-14

#2 The Impact on the dwellers of the earth!  6:15-17

Overview Observations!

1. This seal has the most direct involvement of God;  above secondary causes.

2. Its the only seal judgment that is recognized as the "wrath" of God.

3. The majority will seek to hide from the wrath of God by dying rather than submitting to God.  (blind arrogance, intense neg vol)

4. Earthly success will be no help when under the wrath of God.

5. Those who escape God's immediate judgment are destined for His eternal judgment.

Rev 20:11-15.

#1 The events are detailed in 6:12-14

-  What is here that the God who created the Universe in the first place can not also make some changes in the celestial operation?

#2 The Impact on the dwellers of the earth!  6:15-17

1. Stark Terror  6:15 they hid themselves; all levels of society!

- Point is that the whole fabric of society is impacted.

2. Total insecurity!  6:15b

- Where did they turn in an attempt to escape? Caves, the rocks of the mountains.

3. Fear is manifested!  6:16

- They probably ridiculed anyone who prayed to God, who is real, and yet here we see them praying to rocks!

** These people are impenitent, the judgment that they are undergoing doesn't penetrate their negative volition to God, only results in increasing it.

*** If men and women will not respond to the love of God, and therefore be transformed by the Grace of God; then there is no way for them to escape the wrath of God!
