Blessings of the Abrahamic Covenant
a. There are certain promises made to Abraham that apply to
him personally.
b. There are those
blessings that are made only to Abe's seed.
1. greatness
12:2 "great nation, great name"

c. The third category
of blessing!
There is blessing for all mankind,
including the Gentiles! (non-Jews)
Gen. 12:3 the seed, the Messiah, bringing the
blessing of salvation.
E. The
Nature of the Abrahamic Covenant (2 very important statements)
1. The institution or ratification of the Covenant.
- the
initiation is dependent on the obedience of Abraham.
- see this
conditional aspect that is related to the covenant in 12:1.
Look at
2. Reasons for the unconditional
nature of the Covenant.
a. It is called
Eternal. ie. cannot be terminated!
b. Because the
original covenant had only one condition and it was fulfilled.
c. Because of the way that it was
ratified. Gen. 15:12-21
d. It is called
immutable, unchangeable
Heb 6:13-18.
e. The covenant is reaffirmed in times of apostasy.
Psalm 89:29-37; Jer
31:35-37
* No matter what is
going on in the world, one thing that you can count on is that God will fulfill
every aspect of the Abrahamic, Palestinian, Davidic, and New covenants made with
** Tremendous
confusion can occur if we fail to recognize in all the passages dealing with
the covenants just who are the descendants, who it is these passages are
talking about with reference to the "seed of Abe." We must be precise!
