C. The Basic Covenant is the Abrahamic Covenant.

3 provisions of the Abe Covenant demonstrate why it is basic.

The other three being out growths of it!

#1 Promise of the land Gen 12:1; amplified in 13:14; 17:7-8

- this provision gets expanded in the Palestinian Covenant. Deut 29-30

#2 Spiritual Blessing.

- World blessed via Israel; Always been God's method, plan

- Messiah via Israel; Blesses mankind, the world

- Word is via Israel; to the world Psa. 147:19-20

- In the future it will be the word dispersed from Jerusalem to the world Isa 2:3

- So always it is the world blessed via Israel and the Word of God; true, past present and future.

#3 The Promise of being a Great Nation Gen 12:2

Gen 13:16 "many descendants";

This great nation, out of the many descendants will have a great King! This is amplified in the Davidic Cov. 2 Sam 7:11-13, 16

So the idea here, the basic agreement, that God made with Abraham is this!!

I will put my people Israel in a certain geographical place, with specific boundaries.

Through these people I will channel blessing to the whole world.

These people will become a great nation and be ruled by a theocracy with a great king who will sit on the throne; who will be of the seed of David.

D. Basic provisions of the Abrahamic Covenant.

1. Covenant located in Gen 12:1-3

- It is reconfirmed; Not only reconfirmed but is expanded.

- He does this in 12:6-7; 13:14-17; 15:1-21; 17:1-14; 22:15-18

- Gen 12-50 is basically if you want to put a title on it is the account of the Abrahamic Covenant and the people involved!

Are the covenants important?? They're part of the thread of systematic theology that pulls the word together and make it all gel as a coherent revelation with a consistent body of truth.
