Study of First Peter Lesson 5
Review:
10. God's simple solution to the problem of our
physical birth is regeneration, being born again.
has caused us to be born again
This takes us to the
work of the Holy Spirit in Salvation.
So Peter here is
describing salvation as a new birth, a second birth! It's a spiritual birth. Ties to being a new creation in Christ 2 Cor 5:17.
Regeneration
1. REGENERATION is accomplished by God for all
who believe in all dispensations.
2.
DEFINITION: It is the canceling of spiritual death and the impartation
of eternal life which results in the new birth. 1 Pet 1:23; 1 Jn
5:11,12
3. Therefore, "BORN AGAIN" means that
the spiritually dead unbeliever becomes spiritually alive through the ministry
of God the Holy Spirit.
a. Adam and Eve died spiritually at the point of the first sin. Gen. 2:17
b. Therefore the
consequence of sin was and is spiritual death, a separation.
c. This spiritual
death is passed to all the progeny of Adam.
Rom
d. Therefore, all
unbelievers are spiritually dead. Eph
2:1-2
e. Therefore, all
unbelievers must be born again. John
3:3, 7
4. This new birth, includes the reception of the human
spirit, the establishment of the Spiritual capacity whereby along with the
enabling power of the indwelling Holy Spirit the means to bypass the rulership
of the sin nature with its inherent distortion of truth. 2 Cor
5.
The believer
then is now privileged to live a life free from the dominance of sin/evil and
the distortion of the truth.
6.
Documentation for Regeneration:
a.
It is said to be of God, Jn 1:12-13, specifically of
the Holy Spirit. Titus 3:5
b.
It is associated with the Word. 1 Pet
c.
It is initiated by faith in Jesus Christ.
1 Jn 5:1,4
d.
It is not derived from or based on any human experience. Jn 1:12,13
e. It is permanent. 1 Jn 2:29; 3:9; 4:7; 5:1, ("born" all perfect tense) 5:4,18 (perf ptc the one born of God)
Our salvation has not
only a present reality but a future confidence expressed in the next
phrase. to a living hope
which is grounded in the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Peter
then caps off the whole statement with the basis of proof for the reality of
this living hope our being born again through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from
the dead,
- How
important is His resurrection? Very 1 Cor
-
His resurrection is the overt proof that the salvation provided on the cross is
complete Rom
1:3 Blessed, the God
and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who (G/F) according to His great mercy has
caused us to be born again (regenerated) with respect to a living hope through the agency of the resurrection of
Jesus Christ out from the dead.
Summary
1. A living hope is one that is never
extinguished by the circumstances of life, the common human problems (chp's) we face in time.
2. Part of a living hope is anticipation of the
blessed hope, the return of Christ at the Rapture, acquiring of our
resurrection body and being rewarded at the JSC.
3. Our confidence in this "living
hope" is based on and made a reality by Christ's own victory over the
grave.
4. His victory becomes our victory via the new
birth, regeneration, the impartation of eternal life His life with the result
that spiritual death is cancelled.
5. The resurrection of Christ then is the proof
and guarantee to us of all 3 phases of salvation including our eternal future
with Him.
6. The reality of the eternal life imparted to
each of us when we believed in Christ is that we share Christ's destiny which
includes a physical resurrection.
*** Knowing these basic
principles of doctrine related to the work of Christ and the things to come are
what give us the confidence and
assurance today, right now!
Implications of the Resurrection
a. His resurrection
indicates the completion of justification.
Rom
b.
The resurrection of Jesus Christ makes it possible for Him to fulfill the
function of mediator. Heb 7:25
c. Without the resurrection there is no eternal
priesthood of Christ. Psa 110:4
d. Without the resurrection there can be no fulfillment
of the Davidic Covenant.
e. His resurrection is a guarantee of our resurrection
that is why we have as believers a living hope for eternity.
7. Conclusion: If
we fail to apply the doctrine of the resurrection of Christ it will impact your
life today, will have no confidence in time. 1 Cor
