Lesson 9

Will you trust Me?”

The Challenge of living the FAITH-REST LIFE

Intro:

Observations:  1 John 2:3-6

1.  How can we, as believers, claim to have fellowship with Him, to walk in the light, and not reflect the character of Christ in our life.

2.  Most inner conflict that we experience in our life as believers comes when we attempt to live our life apart from the DWOG, the standard's of DVPT set forth in the Word.

- Phil. 2:5 [begin with MA];  Eph. 4:25-5:2;  Col. 3:5-10; 12-17.

3.  To imitate Christ does not refer to some pattern of legalistic mimicking!

4.  True imitation flows out of what's within, the new man being rooted and grounded in the thinking of Christ! [Word!]

The Biblical Definition of Faith

Hebrews 11:1 reads, "Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for,

"the conviction of things not seen"

Faith means learning to trust God for what we cannot see with our visible eyes.

It means learning to think and act on the principles and promises of the Word regardless of how things seem to us.

Hebrews 11:6 reads, "And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him."

There are two important concepts we learn from this verse:

(1) You cannot please God without faith.

(2) Faith as our modus operandi consists in two fundamental concepts:

(a) We must believe in the existence of God.

(b) We must believe that He is also a rewarder of those who seek Him.

Point:   Heb 11:6 says that we are totally dependent on God for our existence, for our happiness, and for our security.

Know that God cares about us intimately.  1 Pet 5:7

Application:  For many Christians, the Christian life is devoid of  God's power.

Our best is not what God wants. He wants faith in His  best--the Lord Jesus--His very own Son and the fullness of blessing He has made for us in Him.
