Lesson 25

Intro Review:

When you begin construction of a building, of any kind, the most important consideration is the foundation; its critical.

This principle is used metaphorically of the foundation of one's life; what it is built on, in the parable of the 2 builders Mt. 7:24-27;

having been built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets,

The foundation consists of the apostles and the prophets; not primarily focused on the individuals themselves but the content of their teaching; what was inscripturated!

It's not just the apostles and the prophets alone but what does it say? "Jesus Christ Himself being the corner stone."

Observations:

1. The centrality of Christ is essential, His significance to this spiritual structure is so great, so significant that He is identified both as the foundation and the corner stone.

2. The cornerstone, indicates that He is the unifier of the structure.

3. Foundation implies our total dependence on His work and His strength.

4. The fact that we are built on the solid foundation of Christ should give us great confidence and a sense of security that gives great stability in life; knowing that what is built on that foundation will stand for time and for eternity.
