b. vs:14 the purpose

1. "your people"  i.e. its about Israel.

2. about future "latter days"

 

3. "days yet future" indicate it covers a long period of time.

 

 

 

c. Again Daniel is strengthened as the angel ministered to him; 10:15-21

 

 

"turned my face toward the ground and became speechless"

 

 

It is from this book that we learn that God has a plan and purpose for man, for the nations,  for the earth, for time and eternity.

The decree of God, the plans of God are truth, they are a reality and they shall unfailingly come to pass.

His veracity, truthfulness guarantees it.

                                               From Darius to the Time of the End                  

 

11:1 Parenthesis;

The angel speaking recalls an incident in the first year of  M-P rule.

Historical review:

 

 

 

>> Beginning with vs:2 = section deals with history of the 2nd and 3rd empires; runs from vs:2-35. Future for Daniel - past for us!

The second half of the chapter deals with history in the "latter days" the time of the "Revived Roman empire" when it is ruled by GWD.   Still future even for us today!

 

 

 

 

 

** Thrust of the whole section; 11:2 - 12:3; 

   That God is control of history;  Specifically here that He rules over Israel and the Nations as they relate to Israel. 

   100 specific prophecies given here; completely fulfilled.

1.  11:2 Concerning Persia. read

 

- "tell you the truth"  i.e. the truth of what is to come to pass in the future; the revelation of God's plan  10:21.

 

 

 

 

- Between vs:2 and 3 there is around 125 years of history and 6 kings; all on the downward spiral of the empire;

 

 

2.  11:3-4 Concerning Greece  The 3rd Empire.  Read vs:3

 

- Previously identified as the "conspicuous horn" of 8:5; the first king of Greece in 8:21.

 

 

 

 

> Points of this prophecy:

1. This king is in a position of great authority. Does as he pleases.

2. Even while still growing in power/authority his rule is ended.

- it is uprooted; during his rule there is no decline, its all upward;

3. His rule is not passed to his descendants (is the common practice at the time - very unusual); given to others.

     

4. The empire is broken up and parceled out to the four points of the compass.

- Ptolemy    - took Egypt; Cyprus; Palestine; Arabia (South)

- Seleuchus  - took Syria; Babylonia and the lands to the East

- Cassander  - took Macedonia and Greece  (West)

- Lysimachus - took Thrace and Western Asia Minor  (North.)
