Lesson 30

Outline of Dan 9:

1.  Daniel's Discovery  9:1-2

2.  Daniel's Prayer     9:3-19

3.  Daniel's Answer to his prayer  9:20-23

4.  The Prophecy of Seventy Weeks   9:24-27

#4  The petition made  vs:15-19

The basis of Daniel's petition is on the honor and integrity of God.  vs:15-16

Whether its in the dispersions or the restorations,   God's righteousness, power, and mercies are clearly evident.

In vs:17-19 Daniel appeals to God to listen, to hear the prayer of your servant.

His 2nd objective is also seen here;  to restore your sanctuary.

3.  Answer to Daniel's prayer  9:20-23

a.  The answer was immediate!  Vs:20

b.  It was timely!   "in my extreme weariness"  vs:21b

It was also timely from a BD'l standpoint;

- Notice the end of vs:21  "about the time of the evening offering."

- What is significant about that?

It is significant that Daniel here mentions not the blood  sacrifice itself but the minchah, the bloodless meal offering that followed the burnt sacrifice.

- The meal offering prophetically typified the sinless humanity of Christ and it pointed to the fact that through Him flow the mercies, the compassion of God which Daniel had been seeking in behalf of his people.

c.  It was intelligent or wise,  vs:22

To give him insight with understanding.

Objective is to assure Daniel of God's unswerving purpose to fulfill His commitments to Israel, including their ultimate restoration.

Why Daniel?  He was "highly esteemed."  vs:23    Whose evaluation?

4. The Prophecy of Seventy Weeks   9:24-27

Intro:

Daniel's search through previous prophetic writings, (Jer) his fervent and effectual prayer, the arrival of Gabriel at God's urgent command all serve to prepare us for a truly spectacular statement of divine purpose for Israel.

A.  What is Important here to focus on as we look at this great prophecy?

1.  Who is it pertaining to?

What is the place of interest?

2.  Therefore this prophecy must be applied completely to Israel and Jerusalem.

3.  Nothing in it is arbitrary, random or indefinite!

- for it is "decreed" vs:24  means it has been set by God!

4. God has a comprehensive plan for Israel's future.

5.  No where in this prophecy is the Church!
