Daniel Study Notes Lesson # 24

Review:

3.  He  will take some very bold actions.

"and he will intend to make alterations in times and in law."

Prerogatives of God, times/laws

#1. God is the one who determines the times, such as;

#2. God is also the One who determined moral law and natural law and instituted  human government to bring law and order to society.  Gen. 2:24; 9:5-6; Job 38;                  Isa 40:12-13, 26; Rom 13:1-7

#3. "Times and law" then are instruments by which God regulates the affairs of man on earth.

#4. The angel doesn't detail which areas of "times or law" that the Dictator would intend to altar.

#5. But we can conclude that he will be determined to exercise authority over these 2 areas which are the exclusive right of God;  and he will do this to support his claim to deity.

#6. From the description we have seen so far of this "king" it is obvious that he will be the ultimate man, the greatest expression of what man centered mania, which has been driving man to reject God's rule since the fall of man in Eden;  the maturation of man ruling apart from God.

>  In 7:26-27 the angel interprets the heavenly scene from vs:9-14

- this in effect is a great promise here in vs:26 to Israel.

- This judgment will mark the end of the "times of the Gentiles."

> The final observation by the angel in vs:27 deals with the coming of the Kingdom of God; which is the fifth kingdom.

> Daniel's response and state after the dream;  vs:28

#1  Ch-8 Daniel's 2nd personal vision concerns the Empires of  Persia and Greece as they relate to Israel.

#2  Daniel 9 presents Israel's history from the time of Ezra and Nehemiah to the inauguration of the kingdom of God at the 2nd coming of Christ.

3.  3 aspects of the prophetic truth given to Daniel.

#1  From Daniel's perspective it was all future.

#2  Some of it is still future to us.

#3  Some of it has been partially fulfilled historically, that is from our vantage point not Daniel's, and the rest will yet be completely fulfilled.

4.  Dan ch-8 falls into this 3rd category.

8:1-22 are completely fulfilled historically.

8:23 is future and is a reference to the Great world dictator of the time of the last stage of the 4th beast.
