Continue BD  of Pride - Arrogance

Review:

Short B.L. Def. of Pride = Pride is mental independence from God.  This independence from God is manifested through the choices one makes in life that omit God and His word and center on one's self.

6.  Pride is a failure, a failure to acknowledge God as the source of all things, the source of all abilities.  1 Cor 4:7

7.  Pride feeds on knowledge without love. 1 Cor.  8:1

8.  Antidotes for Pride.

#1  Life empowered by the Holy Spirit.

#2  Living one's life by grace.

9.  What about Confidence??  It is not pride!

#1  Confidence is not pride "IF" _____.

Confidence is not pride "IF" that confidence rests in what we know of God.

#2  I know that I can teach the Word!  Is that pride??

Daniel Chapter Five   -   Belshazzar's Feast     -    The Fall of Babylon

Intro:

Time:

5:1  With verse one we have a "problem".

Who was Belshazzar??

Ø      2 Principles that we should understand and apply related to this type of attack on the word of God.

#1  Learn to trust your faith to that which has stood the test of time, the Word of God.

#2  Do not commit your faith to the inconsistent testimony of men, who contradict God's Word, give it time, and they will be proved wrong!

1.  5:1-9   Great feast and revelry in Babylon.

a.  The feast   5:1

b.  The blasphemy   5:2-4.

There are 2 scenarios on going at this time.

#1 is the revelry in side the city in the banquet hall as seen here.

#2 is what is happening outside the city, this "impregnable fortress" city at the time this feast is occurring.
