Daniel - Lesson 12 November 28

Review:

c.  Interrogation, a 2nd chance;  but most important what we see here is their convictions!  3:13-18.

What really sticks out here - their convictions.

#1  They have convictions about man.  vs:16

#2  They have convictions about God.  vs:17-18

Notice what they did not say here!

1.  God is willing to deliver us.

2.  That God is obligated to deliver us.

Observations:

1.  We must be careful not to fall into the trap of wanting something so badly, no matter what it is, that we conclude that God must want the same thing as we do!

2.  What else do they know about God that would motivate them not to attempt to influence God's course of action?

3.  Their tremendous courage before men is derived from their enormous conviction and knowledge about the character of God.

3.  3:19-27  Attempted execution and their delivery.

So often don't we think that if I do what is right my circumstances will get better?

a.  Extent of the Kings anger is seen in vs:19.

b. Another thing that stands out here is the contrast between how they go in and how they come out.

Many of the tests of life are there to challenge you to have the mental attitude that these men had.

c.   Look at the details of the delivery;  vs:24-27

The key concepts here are, He doesn't prevent, but provides through His presence during the ordeal.

Why did He choose to do it this way??

#1  To teach the believer that He delivers by being there, reality of His presence in delivery.

#2  To teach and demonstrate to the UB that He is sovereign, that He is in control.

4  Objective things that these high level witnesses could report.  3:27

#1 the fire did not blister their bodies; had no effect on them.

 #2 No hair was singed;

#3 Their clothing was not touched.

#4 They didn't even have a smell of smoke on them.

God had overwhelmingly demonstrated that there was a God who could deliver these sons of Israel out of the king's hands.

Neb was not as powerful as he thought!  Not the greatest! There was indeed One greater!

4.  Neb responds with another decree;   3:28-30.

Neb is impressed but not converted;  has not believed in YHWH.

They were tested, they honored God and they were promoted.
