- we should maintain a "cool spirit" regardless of the external circumstances

a. Refreshment - 1 Cor 16:18

b. Happiness - Lk 1:47

c. Grace orientation - Mt 5:3; 1 Cor 4:21; Philemon 25; Gal 6:1,18; 1 Pet 3:4; Prov 16:19, "Humble spirit"; 29:23; Isa 57:15; 66:2

- humble or contrite spirit speaks of genuine humility, the believer recognizes that everything of value in life depends on the grace of God

d. Service - Rom 1:9

e. Grace provision for perception of truth - Isa 26:9; Job 32:7-9

f. Relationship - 1 Cor 5:3; Col 2:5 "with you in spirit" - share the same interests, same content of thinking.

g. Faithfulness - "steadfast spirit" of Ps 51:10; 78:8; Prov 11:13 (trustworthy is faithful spirit)

h. Zeal/motivation - 2 Cor 2:13; Rom 12:11 "fervent in spirit, serving the Lord".

i. Sanctification - 1 Thes 5:23; Eph 4:20-24 cp 3:16-19; Lk 1:80 cp 2:40
