Lesson 4

 The Brain Soul Complex

DOCTRINE: THE SOUL

1.  There must be a distinction made between the material brain process and the "living soul" (the real you). Heb 4:12; Lk 1:46,47; 1Thess 5:23.

a. The human soul is inseparably tied to the material brain process but it is a substance distinct and special in its own right. .

- true from birth to death, at death we're face to face and "unplugged" from the 5 senses to human life and history

b. It is some substance probably in the form of a higher electrical energy which has not yet been categorized, evaluated, or measured.

NOTE: It has been demonstrated and documented that all activity in the B/C is made possible by a form of electrical current. (some describe it as an electro-chemical process)

c.  The soul has essence and life and is created by God.   Isa 42:5; Job 33:4; Job 12:10; 27:3; 34:14-15

d.  The human soul shares with, or sparks the brain computer, this is illustrated for us by the "Neshemah"  in Gen 2:7.

e.  Some functions of the soul as defined by the WOG cannot be found clinically in the brain:

1. volition - capacity to express the will/desire of the soul - make decisions; a part of determining what the BC stores in memory

2. emotions - appreciator of life

3. self-consciousness - awareness of one's own existence

4. analysis center - thinking, perceptive comprehension

5. Conscience - only as good as the norms and standards used to form it

None of these functions are operational under petit mal

f.  Only the soul and not the body is created in the image of God  (shadow image - tselem Gen 1:26,27) because God is not flesh like mankind but spirit.  Jn 4:24

 2.  The brain being part of the "body of corruption" with the sin nature has some characteristics of a computer (BC).

It is the soul and the BC working together that provides what we normally think of as the function of the mind.

a. The BC on its own can only give to the soul in its analysis center distorted information.

b. This is the lot of the unbeliever, the carnal or reversionistic believer.

3.  However by the ministries of the Holy Spirit the believer can accumulate maximum doctrine resident through the grace provisions given at salvation

a. It is Doctrine, DVPT stored that becomes the inner dictator under the ministry of the Holy Spirit that rules the brain and eventually re-programs it from hu/vpt to DVPT.   (renewing of the mind)

b. Therefore the BC is either the ruler of the soul or ruled by the soul with maximum BD/RS.  This is linked to the operational ministry of the Holy Spirit.

4.  Only the soul overruling the BC and re-programming it with BD will ever convert it from a storage bank of the knowledge of good and evil to a storage bank of Doctrine/DVPT.

a. Even with BD stored in the BC, the brain will distort this doctrine and give inaccurate read-outs to the analysis center apart from the ministries of the Holy Spirit via the human spirit.  Isa 42:5.

b. Illustration: The Corinthian and Galatian churches.

Both churches had been taught extensively by Paul.

Many in those churches failed to maintain their spiritual integrity and momentum and had a distorted perception of reality when they were faced with tests and false doctrine.

Result is that they made many bad choices pursuing human viewpoint.

5.  The ministry of the Holy Spirit under the concept of spirituality (E/HS) imposes a supernatural circuitry on the BC.

a. When we choose to walk by the Spirit the human spirit becomes operational.

b. This provides the clear readouts of data from the BC to the analysis center of the soul for clear/sound thinking based on truth.

6.  This supernatural circuitry involves the human spirit functioning as a spiritual brain-stem and giving direct, clear, and undistorted readouts of BD - DVPT to the soul's analysis center.

a. The human spirit only operates under the conditions of the E/HS.

b. The unbeliever has no human spirit. 1 Cor 2:14; Jude 19.

c. At salvation (because of regeneration, baptism of HS, indwelling of the HS) each believer is positionally free from the domination of the sin nature  and its lust patterns. Rom 6:6,7

d. But experientially we are not free from personal sins apart from continually walking by the Spirit, walking by faith.  Rom 8:3,4,14

e. We are not separated experientially from human good and evil until we re-program the BC providing the Holy Spirit the spiritual muscle necessary to make sound decisions to consistently present ourselves for service.  Rom 6:11-13, 22.

7.  The soul then becomes the real battleground in the Angelic Conflict.- that is during human history.  Ps 143:3,12; Eph 6:11-17 (spiritual provision for)

a. Since the soul is linked to knowledge and wisdom (Prov 2:10; 24:14; 19:2) it is the object of attack by Satan (Eph. 4:17-19, 27; 1 Tim 4:1-2; Rev 2:10; 20:2, 3, 10).

- his objective is to see that the grace spiritual bypass is shut down.
