The Relationship of Jesus to Women

 

Review of the basics, the essentials. [From where have we come.]

 

 

 

 

 

 

Introductory Observations:

1. Jesus gave a position of honor and respect to women.

- When he did that it stood in total contrast to His generation.

 

 

 

2. Jesus treated both men and women in accord with their God given roles.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Examine Some Scriptural Documentation.

1. Jesus places a high value on women; He recognizes the value of women.

 

 

 

 

 

** Prin of hermeneutics: The cultural mores and the historical setting in to which God communicated His revelation must be distinguished from that revelation itself.  Only God's Word is inspired, not human folkways, mores, and customs. Moreover, later cultural developments and deviations from God's truth must not be confused with revelation from God.

 

 

a. Jesus actually spoke to women, he addressed women publicly       and directly.

 

1. John 4:7-8 sets the scene, unheard of; alone at the well         speaking to this women.

b. He also recognizes their value by ministering to them; did so in what must be termed a vital and practical manner, both physically and spiritually.

4. With many women He taught them truth that was needed for         their situation therefore He met their spiritual needs also.

- The woman at the well in Jn 4;

c. Jesus also demonstrated the High Value He placed on women by      according them dignity in His ministry.

      1. By employing women as illustrations in His teaching.

- Mt 24:41 cf. Lk 17:34-37

 

2. By teaching them theological truth;
