Lesson #2 5/7/00
One other area of introduction:
Ø Should define what is a
non-christian viewpoint, that surrounds us.
A non-christian view is one
which does 1 of 3 things to the Bible.
#1 denies it! #2 Ignores it! #3
Re-writes it!
Ø As believers if we cannot
identify the consensus human viewpoint of the day, and reject it as unbiblical
we will be absorbed by it and therefore neutralized as believers.
Ø Genesis - the book of
beginnings!
- We will look at 3 passages here 1:26-28;
2:18-25; 3:1-24
- We will discover here a
whisper of discrimination.
- Ch-1 emphasis is on male - female
equality.
Ch-2 will emphasize male - female
inequality.
<2> Gen 1:26-28
Day 6 Zenith of God's creative activity.
#1 God's proposal 1:26 What we find here are 3 things about man!
a. His uniqueness.
- "Let us make man in our image"
b. Man's glory!
- being made "in our image, according to our likeness"
c. Responsibility 1:26b
- "let them rule"
Ø At this point one thing we
need to recognize is that we all have a strong sense of "I" [self].
Observations: 1:26-28
1. God refers
to male and female as "them" and then calls "them" man!
2. What is
the mark Christian Maturity?
3. This
statement in 5:2 is the first hint of male headship!
4. ONE OF THE
PROBLEMS TODAY: is that when there are
similarities and differences as there are in male and female the tendencies
today is to stress the similarities.
Yes there are similarities
but there are also distinctions, specific roles for each!
